This is an entry level course for the high school band program. Intermediate musical and marching skills are taught. As inquiring learners and thinkers, students will explore different cultures, techniques and styles through music study and performance. This balanced approach to music education will enable students to become open-minded, knowledgeable, caring individuals and musicians. Public performances, parades, festivals and some out-of-school practices are part of the expectations of this class. These events will help the students learn to take risks as musicians and leaders. Principled practice and reflection on every performance will also be expected. Extra time spent on pep band and solo and ensemble work will be considered when determining grades. Credit for this course is also shared with the marching band.

Curwood Festival
Current 9-12th grade band students will perform together in the Curwood Heritage Parade on 6/4
Details below
When: Saturday, June 4
Report Time: 1:15 PM READY TO GO
Where: 1 block north of Hardee's on Dewey. We'll march down M-21.
What do we wear? Your band t-shirt (coming soon) and dark bottoms (navy or black preferred). All students must wear tennis shoes or marching shoes.
Are shorts/skorts ok? YES - in fact, it's a good idea to stay cool. However, they must be a school appropriate length. If you have to ask, they're not appropriate.
What time should my family/friends come to watch? Parade steps off at 2:00 PM so anytime before that. They can find a spot on the sidewalk along M-21.
Will I be able to be in the parade with my club, dance team, youth group...etc? The band is the first event in the parade so students are welcome to go back after the band performance and join in the parade their team/club/group if they wish.
Is this performance required? Like all band performances, members are expected to attend and participate. If you have a scheduling conflict, please contact your director ASAP so we can work with you to find a solution. We understand that this year has been full of uncertainties and schedules can be tricky to navigate. Digital students who are unable to attend due to COVID concerns will be given an alternate assignment on request.
As with all events this year, this is subject to change as we continue to work through these uncharted waters. We thank you in advance for your attentiveness and flexibility. We will contact you via REMIND and the band website should any changes occur.
